How to unlock Your Vehicle

If your Volvo keyfob only functions intermittently, your battery might be dying and you will need to replace it soon.

You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries yourself by following couple of steps. First, locate a clear work surface to perform the process. Lay out all of the tools you need. Find the battery's hatch, and turn it open using an open-ended flathead, coin, or another similar tool. Next, carefully pry out the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook for Volvo keyfob the key-ring. Make sure that you use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the contacts or the clips.

Once the battery has been removed, insert the new one into its socket. Make sure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are seated. Slide the cover towards the key-ring portion until it loosens and slides off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden key blade. You can use this to unlock your car from the driver's seat when you've lost or damaged the key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

When you press the unlock button only one time the alarm will be disconnected and the driver's door will be unlocked. Pressing it a second time will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. Note: Older Volvos use a different battery one called the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths one millimeter lower than a CR2032 and you'll have to be very careful when replacing your battery.
